Neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is an abnormal growth of cells on generally any nerve in the body including the brain and spinal cord. Children have about a 50% chance of inheriting the condition from a parent with NF. It is typically diagnosed during childhood and by early adulthood. Symptoms are usually mild however may produce issues with vision, learning and development, cardiovascular system, hearing and even pain. NF tumors appear as pigmented birthmarks.
